Ecowitt Wittboy GW2001 vs Davis Vantage Vue with WeatherLink Console
Compare a gateway station with ultrasonic wind and haptic rain against a console station with mechanical wind and a tipping-spoon collector. Local access and service terms are covered.
The decision in brief
How the options differ
The GW2001 pairs the WS90 outdoor sensor with the GW2000 gateway, which has no screen but supports 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and wired Ethernet. SKU 6242 pairs the Vantage Vue integrated suite with a WeatherLink Console that displays, stores and analyses readings without an account. The two stations measure wind and rain by different methods, and neither package establishes a complete history-export contract. Select the North America 915 MHz option for the Ecowitt station.

The buying guide
Package and specification details
Choose between a gateway and a console
The GW2000 is a gateway with indoor temperature, humidity and pressure sensors and no dedicated display; readings come through an app or web workflow. The WeatherLink Console shows readings, graphs and storage on the device and works standalone without a WeatherLink account. If you want a screen in the room, only the Davis package supplies one.
Compare the sensing methods, not just the sensor lists
The WS90 measures wind ultrasonically and senses rain by piezoelectric impact; the optional WH40 collection gauge is not included. The Vantage Vue suite uses mechanical wind cups and a direction vane with an integrated tipping-spoon rain collector. These are different methods with different maintenance and exposure considerations, and no accuracy test has been performed on either.
Check network, power and service terms for the exact package
The GW2000 supports Wi-Fi and Ethernet with a cable included, draws 5 V from an included USB cord, and a wall adapter is not established; native PoE is not supported. The WeatherLink Console uses Wi-Fi for optional online access, with an included AC adapter or USB-C cord and an internal backup battery. Davis documents no account requirement for standalone use plus a basic online account and optional Pro tiers; the Ecowitt sources do not establish a complete cloud-tier, retention or paid-service contract.
