Compare an app-led integrated station with a display-equipped package and separately positioned rain collector.
The decision in brief
How the options differ
Choose the starting workflow before comparing sensor claims. Tempest uses one integrated outdoor device and an included Wi-Fi hub. WS-5000 includes a console, indoor transmitter and separate rain collector. Both document ultrasonic wind, but their rain methods and supplied viewing equipment differ.

The buying guide
Package and specification details
Decide whether a supplied display matters
Tempest expects you to use a phone or browser; the selected package has no dedicated display. WS-5000 supplies a colour console for local readings. If you need an always-available indoor screen, include any extra display device in your Tempest setup rather than comparing the two package names as equivalent contents.
WS-5000 separates the rain collector from its ultrasonic wind array, so those two components need not share one position. Tempest senses rain impacts on the integrated outdoor device. This is an installation choice, not evidence that either station is universally more accurate. Compare mounting access, obstructions and the exact source instructions for the intended location.
Distinguish local software access from a ready-made interface
The Tempest developer protocol documents local UDP observations for compatible software. That does not make the cloud app or its forecasts an offline product, and CompareFoundry has not tested an integration. WS-5000 documents local console history and SD export. Those are different interfaces; choose the one you can actually use and maintain.
The consumer Tempest offer advertises standard access without subscription fees. Ambient offers a standard AWN account alongside optional AWN+ services; its introductory trial is not permanent premium access. Neither description should be extended to unlimited third-party services or commercial data licensing. Check the specific history, alerts or integration feature you require.
Match the final package and its remaining qualifications
Do not add optional mounting poles, heaters, SD media or sensors to the included-equipment list. The Tempest store and linked sheet do not settle battery replacement for every shipped revision. WS-5000 sources disagree on the exact indoor transmitter part name even though the indoor measurement functions are documented. These qualifications remain visible rather than being silently resolved.
No. Tempest uses haptic impact sensing on the integrated device; WS-5000 supplies a separate collecting rain gauge. This distinction does not establish comparative field accuracy.
These manufacturer specifications do not establish measured performance, noise, long-term reliability or running cost. We have not independently tested these products. Check current prices, stock and operating-space instructions with the seller and manufacturer.
