Compare the integrated mechanical array with ultrasonic wind and a separate rain collector, without treating optional extras as included.
The decision in brief
How the options differ
Both packages include a colour console and indoor measurements. WS-2000 combines mechanical wind and tipping rain hardware in one outdoor array. WS-5000 uses ultrasonic wind and a separate rain collector, giving a different mounting arrangement rather than a guaranteed accuracy upgrade.

The buying guide
Package and specification details
Choose the outdoor layout, not just the model number
WS-2000 keeps its wind and rain hardware on one array. WS-5000 supplies a separate rain unit, allowing the collector to be positioned independently of the wind sensor. That extra flexibility also means another component to power, mount and maintain. Neither layout removes the need to check the manufacturers' siting instructions.
WS-2000 has moving cups and a direction vane; WS-5000 measures wind ultrasonically. The mechanism changes the hardware you maintain, but a different sensing method alone is not a measured improvement at your property. CompareFoundry has not tested their wind or rain accuracy side by side.
Both provide local display/history and an optional SD export route. Additional-channel records have their own logging conditions: do not assume that inserting a card later retrieves everything that was never recorded to it. Read the console manual and support notes before relying on the station as a long-term data archive.
A free standard Ambient Weather Network account and optional AWN+ are different offers. The advertised one-month AWN+ trial applies to eligible new users. Compare the exact premium features you need separately from the hardware; neither standard station package grants permanent access to every paid feature.
The standard US packages include a Type A console power adapter. Masts, optional sensors, SD media and batteries are separate. WS-5000 heater power is optional, and its indoor transmitter part is not named consistently across the storefront and manual. Confirm the supplied part rather than treating the comparison matrix as a full packing list.
