Compare two compact Kobo readers by display technology rather than an unsupported image-quality score.
The decision in brief
How the options differ
Both selected black readers have a 6-inch display and 16 GB nominal storage. The central choice is monochrome reading versus a color display, while the Kobo content ecosystem and important water-protection conditions remain similar.

Package and specification details
Separate color from monochrome resolution
Clara BW uses Carta 1300 and the US table gives 1448 x 1072 pixels. Clara Colour uses Kaleido 3 and explicitly distinguishes 300 PPI black-and-white content from 150 PPI color. No physical contrast, refresh-speed or outdoor-legibility test was performed here.
Both support the Kobo store and documented formats including EPUB and PDF. Library borrowing and Kobo audiobooks depend on account, country, catalogue and compatible software. A matching file extension does not remove DRM, and nominal storage does not guarantee a fixed number of books.
Neither Clara selection supports Kobo Stylus. Both list adjustable brightness and color temperature and an IPX8 claim up to 60 minutes in 2 metres of water under manufacturer conditions. A supported feature is not a supplied case, subscription or permission to ignore care instructions.
