Compare two 6-inch, 16 GB monochrome readers by store workflow, light and water claims rather than an unsupported reading-quality score.
The decision in brief
How the options differ
Both selections are 6-inch monochrome readers with 16 GB nominal storage. The practical split is the book ecosystem, Kobo's warm/cool light and IPX8 claim, and what arrives in the box. The Kindle is the 2026 release, not an earlier base Kindle.

The buying guide
Package and specification details
Choose the book store and file route first
The Kindle requires Wi-Fi and an Amazon account for setup. Amazon lists AZW3, AZW, TXT, PDF, unprotected MOBI and PRC natively, with EPUB and other personal documents through conversion. Clara BW uses the Kobo store and supported files including EPUB and PDF, while library borrowing and audiobooks have account, country and catalogue conditions. A matching file extension does not remove DRM.
Amazon's comparison chart marks adjustable warm light and IPX8 waterproofing as not included on this Kindle; it lists an adjustable front light. Clara BW lists adjustable brightness with warm/cool color temperature and an IPX8 claim up to 60 minutes in 2 meters under manufacturer conditions. No contrast, sunlight-legibility or immersion test was performed here.
Amazon lists the Kindle and a Quick Start Guide in the box and says a USB-C charging cable is not included. Its published weight is 140 g, against 174 g for Clara BW; neither figure includes a cover. Amazon gives 300 ppi while the Kobo table gives 1448 x 1072 pixels. Those numbers do not rank contrast or page-turn quality.
Yes. Amazon sells Lockscreen Ad-Supported and Without Lockscreen Ads offers separately. This comparison starts from the Graphite 16 GB offer without lockscreen ads.
These manufacturer specifications do not establish measured performance, noise, long-term reliability or running cost. We have not independently tested these products. Check current prices, stock and operating-space instructions with the seller and manufacturer.
Amazon's US page says a USB-C charging cable is not included; its box list names the Kindle and Quick Start Guide.
Lockscreen Ad-Supported, Ube, Kindle Unlimited and accessory bundles are different selections. Books and account services are not included; confirm the color and offer type before paying.

Color display
Whether the selected display is explicitly documented to show color.
