OWC Envoy Pro Elektron vs Samsung T7 Shield vs SanDisk Extreme (2TB)
Compare three rugged 2TB packages with 10 Gb/s USB-C links by ingress rating, speed-claim basis, supplied cables, formatting and documented encryption.
The decision in brief
How the options differ
All three selections list a 10 Gb/s USB 3.2 Gen 2 USB-C connection. The OWC lists IP67 against IP65 for the other two, but quotes one combined real-world speed rather than separate read and write maxima. Only the SanDisk sources document hardware encryption, and only the SanDisk package documents a USB-A adapter in the box.

The buying guide
Package and specification details
Three 10 Gb/s drives, two ingress ratings
All three list a 10 Gb/s USB 3.2 Gen 2 USB-C connection. OWC rates the Envoy Pro Elektron IP67 and limits immersion to 30 minutes at less than 1 meter; Samsung and SanDisk list IP65 for the T7 Shield and the Extreme. These are manufacturer ratings under their own test conditions, not guarantees against every exposure, and a drop or crush claim is not an ingress rating.
Samsung and SanDisk list up to 1050 MB/s read and 1000 MB/s write. OWC instead quotes one real-world sequential read/write figure from its own iMac Pro testing, and its 2TB store page gives that figure as both 992 MB/s and 1011 MB/s, so the OWC read and write maxima are recorded as conflicting. None of these numbers is a CompareFoundry measurement, and the host port, cable and files still limit transfers.
OWC supplies one 0.3 m (12 in) USB-C cable and sells its USB-C to USB-A adapter separately, while SanDisk lists a USB-C to USB-C cable plus a USB-C to USB-A adapter. The reviewed Samsung page did not establish a complete packing list. OWC ships the Elektron formatted APFS for Mac and iPad and lists boot support as Mac only, so Windows, ChromeOS and Android users must reformat it before use.
SanDisk lists 256-bit AES hardware encryption and excludes USB-C smartphones from its password support. Neither the OWC store page and user guide nor the reviewed Samsung page established hardware encryption or a password workflow, so those are unknown rather than absent. If you need a password-protected drive, confirm the feature and its host support before buying.
The selected 2TB package is listed on MacSales.com, the store operated by Other World Computing (OWC). Identify it by the exact part OWCENVPK02; the separate open-box OWCENVPK02O listing and other capacities are not this selection.
These manufacturer specifications do not establish measured performance, noise, long-term reliability or running cost. We have not independently tested these products. Check current prices, stock and operating-space instructions with the seller and manufacturer.
One new pre-configured 2TB drive, exact part OWCENVPK02, with a 0.3 m (12 in) USB-C cable. The open-box OWCENVPK02O listing, other capacities, the separately sold USB-A adapter and used units are not this selection.
Sold on MacSales.com, operated by Other World Computing, Inc. (OWC), which lists a 3 Year OWC Limited Warranty. Price, stock and checkout were not verified.
