Smoke CADR is nearly identical

Honeywell lists a tobacco-smoke CADR of 323 for the HPA5300B, matching its AHAM Verifide record; Coway lists 328 cfm for the Airmega 400S. A five-point gap is too small to decide on. Pollen differs more: 335 for the Honeywell and 400 for the Coway. Dust is unresolved for the Honeywell, at 335 in its store and 339 in the AHAM directory, against 328 for the Coway. EPA guidance notes CADR is usually measured at the highest speed, so quieter settings deliver less.

Read the room claims at the same air-change rate

Honeywell rates the HPA5300B for 500 sq ft at 4.8 air changes per hour. Coway's 1,560 sq ft for the 400S assumes only 2 ACH with an 8 ft ceiling, and its manual gives 780 sq ft at 4 ACH. Coway publishes no 4.8 ACH area, so the larger number reflects a lighter assumption, not three times the cleaning. Honeywell states no ceiling height; EPA sizing assumes 8 ft and suggests more capacity for higher ceilings or open plans.

App control is documented only for the 400S

Coway documents Wi-Fi and mobile app control for the 400S. Honeywell describes a touch control panel with four cleaning levels, an Automatic Cleaning Mode driven by a VOC sensor and an auto-off timer for the HPA5300B. Neither its store page nor its manual mentions an app, so app control remains unknown rather than confirmed absent.

Count the filters each replacement needs

Honeywell's manual says the HPA5300 series takes three HEPA R filters every 12 months plus an A pre-filter every 3 months; the store sells R filters in one-, two- and three-packs. Its included-filter bullet names only one R filter, which conflicts with that requirement, so check the box. The 400S uses Coway's two-piece Max2 set, SKU 3104756, one filter for each side, with washable pre-filters. Compare a complete replacement set, not a single filter.

Leave running cost open for the Honeywell

Coway lists 66 W for the 400S. Neither Honeywell source states a rated input for the HPA5300B, and although both call it ENERGY STAR certified, no HPA5300 record appears in the current ENERGY STAR room air cleaner dataset. Even a confirmed rating would not show use at each fan speed, so no running-cost winner is established here.

Is Coway's 1,560 sq ft better coverage than Honeywell's 500 sq ft?

Not on the same basis. Coway's figure assumes 2 air changes per hour, and its manual gives 780 sq ft at 4 ACH. Honeywell's 500 sq ft is at 4.8 ACH. Their smoke CADRs, 328 and 323, are close.

How many filters does the HPA5300B need?
