Compare smoke with smoke, dust with dust
Coway lists smoke, dust and pollen CADR of 233, 246 and 240 CFM; Winix lists 253, 252 and 247 CFM respectively. CFM means cubic feet per minute. The Winix advantage is 20 CFM for smoke but only 6 for dust and 7 for pollen, so one percentage would hide the different gaps. Keep the particle type attached when deciding whether that difference matters for your room. These are published ratings, not our measurements; the source notes identify how the Winix units were corroborated.

At 4.8 air changes per hour (ACH), the published areas are 361 sq ft for Coway and 392 sq ft for Winix: a 31 sq ft difference. Both use an eight-foot ceiling assumption. A 380 sq ft enclosed room falls within only the Winix figure; a 400 sq ft room exceeds both. These are sizing comparisons, not proof of results in either room. Coway’s 1,748 sq ft and Winix’s 1,882 sq ft headlines describe one ACH. Do not compare them with a 4.8-ACH area. Coway’s one-sheet also has conflicting two-ACH prose; we use its table, current product page and manual for 361 sq ft at 4.8 ACH.
For room measurements and fan-setting tradeoffs, read the air purifier CADR and filter guide.

CADR is usually measured at the highest fan speed. Lower speeds filter less air, and open adjoining areas or ceilings above eight feet increase the space to account for. Measure your room before choosing, then consider whether you would keep the required fan setting running while working or sleeping. Neither maximum-area figure establishes its coverage in a quieter setting. A small difference between the published room ratings cannot answer that question.

Coway names the AP-1512HH / 200M filter set; its replacement listing describes one HEPA filter plus two deodorization filters and offers several custom selections. That replacement set is not an extra set included with the purifier. Winix 5510 uses Filter Q, SKU 1712-0123-00, containing HEPA and AOC activated-carbon filters. Compare the current price and contents of those exact replacements before ordering. Similar-looking filters and specialty options should not be treated as interchangeable or included equipment.

Coway’s manual calls for pre-filter cleaning every 2–4 weeks, deodorization-filter replacement every six months and HEPA replacement yearly. Its replacement schedule assumes eight hours daily at maximum speed and varies with conditions. Winix specifies pre-filter cleaning every 14 days and roughly 12-month replacement of the carbon and HEPA filters, depending on the environment. Neither manual permits washing those carbon/deodorization and HEPA filters. Only the pre-filters have water-cleaning instructions; unplug first and follow the drying directions. These schedules are maintenance guidance, not guaranteed filter life or an annual cost estimate.

Winix documents the Winix Smart app as well as manual fan speeds, Auto and Sleep modes. Coway provides three manual speeds, Auto, Eco and a 1/4/8-hour shutoff timer. Its Eco mode can stop the fan after 30 minutes without detected pollution. Coway app control remains unknown for this exact AP-1512HH; the lack of a model-specific claim does not prove it has none. The automatic controls also use different sensing descriptions: Coway names a dust sensor, while the Winix manual describes odorous-gas sensing. Their indicator colors are not interchangeable particle measurements. Coway’s ionizer and Winix’s PlasmaWave each have an on/off control.

Coway’s noise evidence conflicts: its page says 24–53 dBA, while its one-sheet gives 24.4–55.1 dBA in the table and 22 dBA elsewhere. That prevents a clean noise ranking, even before matching fan speed and test conditions. Rated power is 77 W for Coway and 65 W for Winix; these figures do not establish energy use at equal clean-air delivery. We have no matched noise or energy tests. Particle CADR also does not rate gas removal or demonstrate a health outcome for either model. Filtration supplements source control and ventilation; neither purifier removes every pollutant.

The starting options are the white Coway AP-1512HH single unit with its standard filters and the Winix 5510 US standard package with pre-filter, AOC carbon and HEPA filters. This is not a comparison with the Coway AP-1512HHS or the Winix 5500-2. The Winix manual covers both 5510 and 5520, but the selected seller destination and package here are 5510. Check the model, supplied filters and current seller terms; replacement-filter offers are separate purchases.

App control remains unverified for this exact AP-1512HH. Do not read unknown as no. Winix 5510 explicitly documents Winix Smart support, making it the supported choice here if app control is a requirement.

Only after matching ACH. The 1,748 sq ft Coway and 1,882 sq ft Winix claims use one air change per hour. The smaller 361 and 392 sq ft figures both use 4.8 ACH and an eight-foot ceiling assumption. Keep those conditions attached to the area.
