Decide what you will scan and which device will run the software first, then read every accuracy figure together with the condition the manufacturer attaches to it.
Handheld and desktop object scanners sold new in the US for hobby, maker and prosumer use, with their manufacturer-published specifications. Photogrammetry apps, LiDAR mapping scanners, dental and metrology systems and measured accuracy tests are outside this catalogue.
Specifications come from the linked manufacturer documents and seller listings. We have not independently tested these products.
Before you choose.
How small and how large are the objects you will scan?
Minimum scan volume, working distance and maximum object size are published limits. A scanner tuned for jewellery and a scanner tuned for furniture are different tools, and one number does not cover both.
What does the accuracy figure actually describe?
Manufacturers publish single-frame accuracy, precision, point distance or resolution under their own conditions. Precision is repeatability, resolution is point spacing and neither is a guarantee for your finished model.
Which computer or phone will run the scan, and what is in the box?
Most scanners need a listed Windows or macOS computer; some add a phone route or run with no computer at all. Turntables, tripods, phone grips and paid software are included only when the exact package lists them.
