A consumer 3D scanner is one part of a workflow: prepare the object, run the scan on a computer, phone or the device itself, align and process the data, then export a mesh. Decide what you will scan and where the software will run before a headline accuracy number narrows the purchase.
Start with the objects, not the number
Every manufacturer publishes a working distance and some form of size range. Revopoint lists a minimum scan volume of 10 mm for MINI 2 and 20 mm for POP 3 Plus, with recommended maximums of 500 mm and 2 m. 3DMakerpro lists typical object sizes of 15 to 1500 mm for Moose. SHINING 3D gives EINSTAR 2 a 10 mm minimum volume in its laser mode and no maximum, and gives EINSTAR VEGA working distances per mode without size limits.
Write down the smallest and largest items you expect to scan, and whether they are matte, dark, shiny, transparent or hairy. Several makers state that difficult surfaces may need scanning spray or markers. A short working distance suits small parts on a turntable; a long one suits furniture, people and vehicle interiors. One scanner rarely covers both ends well.
Read accuracy claims with their conditions
Accuracy, precision, point distance and resolution are different quantities. Revopoint publishes single-frame accuracy and single-frame precision separately, defines precision as repeatability, and states that both were acquired in a controlled lab and that results vary with the environment. 3DMakerpro publishes 0.03 mm accuracy for Moose without a stated condition. SHINING 3D publishes resolution and frame rate for EINSTAR 2 and EINSTAR VEGA and no accuracy figure at all.
Treat each figure as a manufacturer claim under the manufacturer's own conditions. A smaller number does not prove a better model of your part, and a finer point distance does not remove alignment errors across many frames. These catalogue records are sourced specifications, not independent measurements.
Understand the light source and tracking names
Blue structured light, infrared structured light, blue laser lines and infrared VCSEL projectors describe hardware. Blue light models such as MINI 2 and Moose are aimed at small objects, infrared models such as POP 3 Plus at medium objects and mixed-mode units such as EINSTAR 2 at both. Revopoint lists MINI 2 outdoor scanning as No, while SHINING 3D publishes outdoor light limits for EINSTAR 2.
Feature, texture, marker and hybrid alignment are mode names. Marker-free tracking depends on an object having enough geometry or texture, and laser modes may require markers; EINSTAR 2 aligns its laser mode by markers only. A mode being listed does not mean it will track your object.
Confirm the device that runs the scan
Most consumer scanners need a listed computer. Revopoint names minimum and recommended Windows and macOS configurations and states that no discrete GPU is needed; 3DMakerpro names an Intel Core i5 with an entry GPU as a minimum; SHINING 3D lists an RTX 3060 Laptop GPU and 32 GB of DDR5 for EINSTAR 2. EINSTAR VEGA scans on its own touchscreen and uses a computer only for later processing.
Phone support is a separate fact. Revopoint supplies a phone holder and mobile cable in its Standard Editions. 3DMakerpro routes phones through a separately sold Smart Grip that only the Luxury combo includes. A wireless link, as on EINSTAR 2, still ends at a computer. Check your actual device against the list rather than assuming a platform name covers it.
Separate software from hardware
Revopoint states Revo Scan is free and sells Revo Design as a one-year licence bundle. 3DMakerpro states JMStudio is free with lifetime updates and sells Geomagic Wrap separately. SHINING 3D names EXStar Hub and StarVision without publishing licence terms, and offers 5 GB of free cloud storage with VEGA. Record what is free, what is a term licence and what is unstated before comparing prices.
Match the exact US package
Edition names change the box. The MINI 2 Standard Edition lists a tripod, mini turntable, calibration board, markers and phone accessories; the Advanced Edition adds a dual-axis turntable. Revopoint shows POP 3 Plus Standard contents as pictures, so confirm the written list with the seller. The Moose Standard combo is the scanner, charger and cable, the Premium adds a turntable, tripod and bag, and the Luxury adds the Smart Grip. EINSTAR base bundles include a case, calibration board, markers and power equipment but no tripod or turntable.
Use the comparison as a checklist for the workflow you can verify: object range, stated accuracy condition, host device, software terms and box contents. It does not provide a live price, a stock guarantee or a tested winner. Keep unresolved details visible until the manufacturer or seller supplies evidence for your exact selection.
Common questions
Does a 0.02 mm figure mean a scanner is accurate to 0.02 mm?
Not by itself. Revopoint labels its 0.02 mm MINI 2 figure as single-frame precision and point distance, and publishes 0.05 mm as single-frame accuracy. Read the label and the stated condition before comparing scanners.
Can I scan with my phone instead of a computer?
Only when the manufacturer lists a phone route for that package. Revopoint Standard Editions include a phone holder and mobile cable; 3DMakerpro requires the separately sold Smart Grip; EINSTAR 2 links wirelessly to a computer, and EINSTAR VEGA needs neither.
Are the turntable and tripod in the box?
Only if the exact edition lists them. Revopoint Standard Editions and the Moose Premium combo list them; the Moose Standard combo and the EINSTAR base bundles do not.
