Odyssey vs Vespera II: larger-aperture packages and what they leave out
Choose between an 85 mm mirror telescope sold with a tripod and a 50 mm wide-field unit sold without tripod, cable or filters.
The decision in brief
How the options differ
The Odyssey US package includes a full-height tripod and charging cable; the Vespera II US package is the telescope, a soft cover and a card. Both makers sell the solar filter separately. Aperture and field of view describe the optics, not a result in your sky.

The buying guide
Package and specification details
Match the field of view to your targets
Odyssey documents an 85 mm mirror at 320 mm with a 33.6 × 45 arcmin field. Vespera II documents a 50 mm, 250 mm refractor with a 2.5° × 1.4° native field and a CovalENS mosaic mode up to 4.33° × 2.43°. The mosaic figure is assembled from several frames and is not a single-frame field.
The Odyssey box lists the tripod, dust cap, charging cable, tools and documentation. The Vespera II VE50-II box lists only the telescope, soft cover and getting-started card; Vaonis states the USB-C connector is not included and the seller lists the tripod, charger and cable, filters and backpack as separate purchases.
Both solar filters are separate accessory purchases: the Smart Solar Filter (Odyssey Pro & Odyssey) and the Vespera Solar Filter guided by the Singularity Solar Mode. The App Store lists iOS 18.0 or later for the Unistellar app; Vaonis support states iOS 14 or Android 9 or later for Singularity. Battery claims of 5 h and 4 h carry no published test conditions.
The retrieved Unistellar pages state a 1.45 μm pixel size but do not name the sensor model or a pixel count, so this catalogue leaves both unknown rather than adopting third-party figures.

None is documented. Vaonis sells dual-band and light-pollution filters as separate accessories, so the field stays unknown rather than being recorded as absent.
These manufacturer specifications do not establish measured performance, noise, long-term reliability or running cost. We have not independently tested these products. Check current prices, stock and operating-space instructions with the seller and manufacturer.
Published focal length of the main imaging optics.
Focal length with the sensor size sets the documented field of view. A phone-camera equivalent focal length is a marketing comparison, not a magnification result.
The sensor model or format named by the manufacturer for the main camera and any secondary camera.
A sensor name identifies hardware. Processing, stacking and sky conditions decide the result; unknown means the manufacturer did not name the sensor on the retrieved pages.

Published pixel count of a single frame from the main camera.
Mosaic or stitching modes advertise larger output sizes; those are assembled from several frames and are kept in the note, not in this value.

Documented field of view
Field of view published for the main camera, with any wide-angle camera or mosaic figure kept separate.
Compare the native field with the apparent size of your targets. A mosaic field is a documented feature that takes several frames, not a single-frame result.

Mount and tracking modes
The documented mount arrangement, tracking and any equatorial mode with its stated conditions.
An equatorial mode can require polar alignment or a separately sold head. Exposure limits tied to a mode are manufacturer conditions, not measured tracking accuracy.

Built-in filters
Filters documented as internal to the unit, such as UV/IR-cut, dual-band or dark-frame filters.
An internal filter wheel is hardware. A dual-band filter passes named wavelengths; it does not promise a result under your light pollution. Separately sold filters are not built in.
