The host, bridge, cable and SSD can each limit results.	40 Gb/s Source · 2026-10-21 Satechi: USB4 NVMe SSD Pro Enclosure ST-EU4NPM US product pageChecked 2026-10-21. Supported drive protocol Documented SSD protocols for the enclosure. M.2 describes a physical format; NVMe and SATA are different protocols. Match both.	M.2 NVMe (PCIe Gen 4 x4). M.2 SATA support Whether SATA drives are explicitly supported. A matching connector or length does not establish SATA support. Unknown is not a confirmed no.	Not verified We have not verified this value. It is not a confirmed no or zero. Check the original source or ask the manufacturer if it affects your choice. The page documents M.2 NVMe drives only and does not state whether M.2 SATA drives are supported or excluded. This is not a confirmed no. Supported M.2 lengths Documented length codes and any source disagreement. Check both the mounting position and component clearance, especially for double-sided drives.	Important Info lists 2230, 2242, 2260 and 2280; the FAQ size answer lists only 2242, 2260 and 2280.Confirm 2230 mounting with Satechi before relying on it. Drive installation The documented enclosure opening and drive-retention method. Tool-free does not eliminate thermal-pad placement or careful handling of the SSD.	Pin-design, tool-free drive installation; no screwdriver is needed. Hot swapping the SSD is not supported: eject and disconnect the enclosure before changing drives. Source · 2026-10-21 Satechi: USB4 NVMe SSD Pro Enclosure ST-EU4NPM US product pageChecked 2026-10-21. We reviewed the official page text on the check date. Checkout options were not verified.
Cooling arrangement Documented enclosure materials and heat-transfer components. A heat sink is not proof of sustained speed or that every drive avoids throttling.	Aluminum enclosure; the FAQ recommends the included thermal pad and clear polycarbonate case for heat distribution. Included host cables Cable contents established for the selected package. A cable that fits physically may not support the advertised rate. Regional packing lists remain separate.	Sources disagree The sources give different answers, so we have not chosen one as fact. Read the attached notes and confirm the current specification before relying on it. What's In The Box names only the enclosure, while the FAQ says to use the USB4 cable that came with it. The cable contents are not resolved. Host requirements Required interface and operating conditions. Using a faster host port does not upgrade the enclosure bridge. Formatting and file-system support are separate.	Thunderbolt 4, Thunderbolt 3 or USB4 Type-C ports are required for optimal use; USB 3.2 Gen 2 and older hosts run at lower rates. The listed iPad Air (M4, 2026) is limited to 10Gbps and iPhone 17e to 480Mbps. Satechi says exFAT is needed for use with a PC. Explicit compatibility limits Important exclusions and capacity or revision conditions. Use the exact drive and enclosure revision. Do not treat a generic NVMe label as universal compatibility.	Not compatible with double-sided SSDs or drives with heat sinks. Important Info states drives up to 16TB. The named tested-drive list is not an exhaustive compatibility guarantee. Questions to check before buying	Satechi's own page gives two size lists, so 2230 support needs confirmation. The box list names only the enclosure while the FAQ refers to an included USB4 cable, thermal pad and case; the exact US box contents are unresolved.
